1. Substantial water damage

“A kitchen renovation is an excellent example since homeowners can budget for big things like cabinetry, countertops, and appliances,” said Bodrozic. “However, they overlook the trash disposal, backsplash tile, lighting fixtures, and fume hood.” The inadequate list results in higher expenses than anticipated.”

“People prefer to budget for all the new items they desire,” Bodrozic said, “but there is a significant hidden cost on the labor to demo the old materials, as well as the expenses to safely transfer the materials to a landfill.”

Remember, according to Lucas Machado, president of House Heroes, “don’t simply pick the cheapest contractor.” “You get what you paid for,” and you may wind yourself paying extra for things they skipped over or underbid on.

Termite damage is number seven.
It’s not unusual to find signs of previous termite damage in the structure of your house, according to Melanie Davison, General Manager of Masters Touch Pest Solutions.
“Wood-destroying insects may go through your home’s foundation, hollowing out any cellulose-based construction materials,” Davison said. “Wood, as well as paper and certain insulating materials, fall under this category.”
Although you can’t undo damage after it’s occurred, it’s a good idea to keep an eye out for these pests on a frequent basis (either you or an exterminator can do this).

Permits are number eight.
Certain renovation projects may need permits, which are not free. They vary in price depending on the magnitude of the work and the location, but you don’t want to overlook them.
“If you attempt to sell without obtaining permits, the municipality may force you to remove your work and start again,” Get LISTED Realty Realtor Kris Lippi said. “Of course, this may run into the hundreds of dollars for a homeowner.”
